The “Veggie” Vending Machine

The Marriott at Chicago’s O’Hare airport has installed a Farmer’s Fridge vending machine in its lobby, giving guests round-the-clock access to freshly made salads, sandwiches and snacks.

Farmer’s Fridge is a Chicago-based start-up company that has taken a vending approach to making healthy food easier to access. Items prepared daily by Farmer’s Fridge are packaged in recyclable plastic jars and range in price from $3 to $12. They include the Detox Salad (also known as the Junk Food Eraser) made with organic kale and quinoa with fennel, fruits and beans served in white balsamic vinaigrette; Greek yogurt and berries (also known as Breakfast of the Gods) made with locally sourced honey; and lemon pepper chicken.
