PepsiCo pilots second-generation interactive vending machine

In the States, PepsiCo is piloting its Pepsi Interactive Vending Machine in five malls across the country. The state-of-the-art vender equipped with a touchscreen front is the next generation of its social vending prototype launched last year.

Patrons can purchase a drink or gift a beverage to a friend by entering the recipient’s name and email along with a personalised message. The gift is delivered with a system code and instructions for redeeming it at any Pepsi Interactive Vending machine. Recipients can keep the gift, thank their friend by sending back a gift and pay it forward by giving the gift to someone else directly from the machine.

Users can also compete in an onscreen random chance game customised for mall shoppers. With the purchase of any beverage, consumers are eligible to play for a chance to win a free 20-fl.oz. beverage that can be redeemed immediately or at a later date at any Pepsi Interactive Vending machine.

Additionally, users can charge their mobile devices by plugging into specially designed AC-power outlets and USB ports directly from the machine.

Nutritional information for the products sold in the machine, along with PepsiCo television commercials and other video promotions, is available for on-demand viewing at each unit.

“The pilot launch of our interactive vending equipment is an exciting step in transforming the point-of-purchase experience,” said Margery Schelling, global innovation officer of PepsiCo Foodservice. “We know consumers will enjoy the new machine and want to return again and again.”
