Mars Chocolate has opened its new, state-of-the-art R&D facility by welcoming business and enterprise minister Michael Fallon to officially open the doors to the £6m centre in Slough, the birthplace of Mars in the UK.
Slough now houses Mars Chocolate’s largest research facility in Europe and will see over 100 R&D associates working on new product and packaging development, design, sensory science and longer-term science and technology platforms.
The new facility features state-of-the-art kitchens and laboratories, as well as a pilot production line where new product developments will be test-manufactured on a global scale (a first for Mars’ UK operation).
The Slough factory produces many brands, including Mars, Snickers, Galaxy, Minstrels, Maltesers and Revels. It produces more than 2.5 million Mars bars every day using the skills of more than 1,000 people employed on-site.
