Concept Shed, which has designed products for large multinationals and colleges, is looking to market its AutoWed novelty marriage vending machine in the U.S. The notion is simple. A happy couple joyfully inserts money into the bright “Cadillac pink” vending machine and enter their names on a retro-style keyboard. After a brief recorded ceremony, complete with audio prompts and a wedding march, the unit vends a personalised marriage licence and two rings.
The machine, currently in its prototype stage, won a 2012 Media Innovation Award in the Best Installation/Exhibit/Live Event category. “This was a completely innovative idea that was fun, engaging, bonkers and totally genius,” the MIA judges said. Working AutoWed prototypes can be found in two locations. The first is in Scotland at the Edinburgh Camera Obscura and World of Illusions, an interactive tourist attraction, and the other resides in Michigan at Marvin’s Marvellous Mechanical Museum.
The inventors are now looking to gear up production for placement in tourist spots and other public locations.
