University vending machine – with a difference

MacBook laptops are now being dispensed via the everyday vending machine. Philadelphia’s Drexel University have responded to past occurrences where students came into harm late at night carrying their expensive technology home.

Now students, staff and faculty can rent a MacBook for up to five hours using their university card.  On return the laptop’s batteries automatically charge and prepare for the next user, also wiping the hardrive clean.

Whilst currently only in demo format at the university, if the experiment shows positive results, the University’s Dean aims to put the kiosks all over the campus.  Two other East Coast universities are exploring this phenomenal new addition to knowledge learning.
